Me

Thanks for some of the great comments I have received! First off, I am not claiming to be a chemist (to an extent!). I have been in the hair field for 28 years, so for me it’s not only about designing hair but how it works. I research in my spare time and when I am applying color I am thinking about the process that is taking place in the hair shaft. Sometimes it’s hard for my brain to visualize the whole process. I would hope someday a child would not have to experience growing up without hair. When I learn all there is to hair it’s time for me to put the scissors down. A lot of people think hair is like growing flowers, water it fertilize it and beautiful flowers. The hair shaft does not get its keratin and moisture from so to speak from the ground up. It works more like when you spray the leaves of plants with nutrients which then are absorbed.

If It Was Only That Easy

I don’t understand why we all want our hair to look great but maintenance free. I don’t mind when clients bring in pictures of haircuts. I do mind when the next comment is “I don’t want to have to do anything to it”. Hair is like your skin, it must be cleansed not the plop (plop the shampoo on hair and rinse) and adding essential moisture and keratin. There is a proper way to shampoo hair:

Wet hair thoroughly moving hair side to side using your fingers to raise the hair up off the scalp.

Apply shampoo to palm of hands.

Work shampoo between your hands.

Apply to hair massaging scalp with the pads of your finger tips. Sulfate free shampoos do not lather as much so add more water to the hair.

Rinse hair properly.

Don’t believe? Shampoo your normal way, when you are done feel the lower nape of your hairline. Yup! Shampoo residue. Conditioner makes my hair greasy. Or… my hair is still dry. You must get as much moisture out of your hair before conditioning (remember no plop), finish shower, rinse.

If your stylist cannot prescribe a professional shampoo and conditioner for your hair, J&J can. Our experienced stylist will tell the benefits of our professional hair care lines. Happy shampooing!

2011 Premeire Hairshow

Yes, again to keep us updated on our profession we attended the international show in Orlando, Fla. One thing I got from attending, is not to trend set. People express who they are by tattoo’s, piercings, and some through their hair. Why do people have to have the latest trend hairstyle even if it does nothing for their appearance? Are people afraid to express themselves or are they afraid of who they really are? Think about this the next time you decide to go to a hair salon. Open your mind and bring out who you are through your hair. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel about “YOU”. Come on into J&J and let us convert that invert and show the world who you really are!!!

Thanks to the J & J Models During the Health Fair

These are two of my long time clients that agreed to be my models for the Health&Beauty Fair. The model with blue lites in her hair, has a natural color of medium blonde. Last year she wanted to go darker and I was hesitant thinking she would look washed out. BAM! As you can see she looked great! Got to Love this profession. For the show, I pre-lightened sections of her hair adding blue and color gloss and then colored the rest of her hair with chocolate shine in the Schwarzkopf line. I also used the chocolate shine in a darker level on my second model and then went back through and foiled some red flame hilites through the top of her hair. Thanks again to everyone who came out to the Health & Beauty Fair.
